Role Summary
The Warehouse Automation Senior Manager leads strategy through execution for warehouse and distribution center automation programs, helping clients improve throughput, service levels, cost-to-serve, and workforce safety. This leader drives solution design, business case development, vendor selection, systems integration, and change management across robotics, material handling, warehouse control, and warehouse management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Program leadership: Own large-scale automation initiatives from roadmap to deployment; manage scope, timeline, budget, risks, and dependencies.
- Automation strategy & roadmap: Define target operating model, automation opportunities, and phased investment plan aligned to business goals.
- Business case & value realization: Build financial models (capital, operating, labor, service), define benefits tracking, and establish realization governance.
- Solution architecture & design oversight: Lead or oversee conceptual design for automation (e.g., goods-to-person, sortation, AS/RS, AMRs), controls, and system interfaces.
- Systems & integration: Coordinate requirements and integration across warehouse management system (WMS), warehouse control system (WCS), warehouse execution system (WES), transport management, ERP, and data platforms.
- Vendor selection & delivery management: Run request for proposal (RFP) processes; evaluate integrators and OEMs; manage contract deliverables and performance.
- Operational readiness: Drive process redesign, labor planning, training, cutover planning, and hypercare stabilization.
- Data-driven performance improvement: Define KPIs (throughput, cycle time, pick accuracy, utilization, downtime) and implement continuous improvement routines.
- Stakeholder & executive management: Lead steering committee (SteerCo) communication, resolve cross-functional conflicts, and present to executive leadership.
- Team leadership: Mentor consultants/managers; build high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams (operations, engineering, IT, analytics).
- Firm contributions: Support proposal development, thought leadership, assets/accelerators, and practice growth in supply chain and fulfillment transformation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (engineering, supply chain, operations, or related) or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years in supply chain/fulfillment, automation engineering, operations transformation, or consulting.
- 5+ years leading complex programs with multiple workstreams and vendors (integrators/OEMs/IT).
- Hands-on experience delivering at least one end-to-end automation deployment (design to go-live).
- Strong client-facing leadership, executive communication, and financial/business case skills.
- Willingness to travel based on client needs (often 50-75%).
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MBA, MS Engineering/Supply Chain) a plus.
- Experience with WMS/WCS/WES implementations and integration patterns; familiarity with OT/IT considerations and site networks.
- Exposure to robotics and automation technologies (AMRs, AS/RS, sortation, conveyor, vision, pick/pack automation).
- Lean/Six Sigma, PMP/PMI, Prosci, or similar certifications (helpful, not required).
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g., life sciences, food/cold chain) or high-velocity e-commerce fulfillment.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $175,300 - $322,900.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
