Work You’ll Do
The Future Operations Planner (OPSO) is responsible for shaping, coordinating, and advancing future operational plans that improve mission readiness, operational continuity, and strategic effectiveness. This role supports the development of deliberate and contingency plans, operational concepts, and mission execution frameworks for complex environments involving joint, allied, partner, or cross-functional stakeholders.
The OPSO plays a critical role in translating strategic guidance into actionable plans, balancing mission requirements against constrained resources, and identifying opportunities to improve survivability, lethality, resilience, and readiness. This position is future-focused and is expected to integrate lessons learned, emerging doctrine, evolving threats, and new technologies into operational planning efforts.
This role may be applied across active-duty military organizations, reserve components, defense contractors, combat support organizations, and allied or partner planning cells.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, review, and refine future operations plans, contingency plans, campaign plans, and operational planning products.
• Support planning for OPLANs, CONPLANs, OPORDs, TASKORDs, theater security cooperation activities, exercises, and mission transformation initiatives.
• Provide recommendations on the employment of conventional forces and operational concepts that enhance mission effectiveness.
• Analyze strategic guidance, long-range plans, operational concepts, and mission requirements to identify planning implications and operational risks.
• Recommend solutions that improve survivability, readiness, lethality, and continuity of operations against current and emerging threats.
• Coordinate with joint, interagency, allied, partner, and internal stakeholders to ensure unity of effort in planning and execution.
• Forecast operational requirements, resource constraints, capability gaps, and mission dependencies to support informed decision-making.
• Participate in cross-functional planning teams and working groups to align operational objectives with organizational priorities.
• Incorporate lessons learned, doctrine updates, force design changes, and relevant technologies into future operations planning.
• Produce analytical reports, decision-support products, briefs, and recommendations for senior leaders.
• Assess trade-offs between operational demands and limited personnel, equipment, funding, or time resources.
• Support mission expansion, re-engineering, and transformation initiatives through planning analysis and implementation recommendations.

Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Military Studies, International Relations, National Security, Strategic Studies, Operations Management, Public Administration, Emergency Management or related field
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
• Active TS/SCI security clearance required
• 5+ years of relevant experience in operations planning, military planning, readiness planning, contingency planning, or strategic/operational analysis
• Demonstrated experience supporting operational planning cycles, mission readiness activities, or force employment planning.
• Working knowledge of military planning processes, joint planning concepts, and operational-level decision support.
• Experience coordinating across diverse stakeholders and translating strategic objectives into executable plans.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Strategic Studies, Defense Analysis, Security Studies, Business Administration, Public Policy, or Operations Research.
• Advanced Operational Planning Schools i.e. JAWS, SAMS, MAWS, JCWS, JPME.
• Senior PME such as CGSC, ILE, USMC CSC, MAGTF, NCSC, War College.
• Professional Certificates i.e. PMP CMP.
• Prior relevant Military MOS experience such as USMC 0302, 0502, 0511
• Background working within or alongside USINDOPACOM, MARFORPAC, HQMC, a combatant command staff, a Service component staff, or a MEF headquarters.
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Hawaii, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to Hawaii and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $102,750 to $171,250.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
