As a Manager, you will lead a global shared services team within GFS, supporting Deloitte member firm's accounting and controllership activities. You will be accountable for high-quality, on-time close execution, balance sheet integrity, insightful analysis, and strong stakeholder partnership across a distributed US/India delivery model.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead close execution: Own end-to-end delivery of periodic, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including close calendars, deliverables, dependencies, and issue resolution to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
- Oversee ledger activities: Manage and review journal entry processing with emphasis on quality, completeness, supporting documentation, and adherence to firm policies and procedures.
- Review critical tasks: Review all critical and sensitive process deliverables prior to submission to Member Frim for accuracy and completeness.
- Manage team: Review and manage allocation of work for the team members. Monitor, track, and focus on completion of scheduled activities on a day-to-day basis in terms of quality standards of work to meet SLE.
- Drive reconciliation quality: Oversee timely completion and review of account reconciliations; ensure aging, follow-ups, and remediation of reconciling items to maintain balance sheet integrity.
- Provide analysis and insights: Analyze revenue, expense, and account activity (systematic and non-systematic), identify trends/variances, and deliver clear explanations to controllership and business stakeholders.
- Stakeholder management: Serve as the primary point of contact for member firm finance/controllership partners; manage escalations, set expectations, and provide proactive status updates and risk/impact communication.
- Lead global delivery model: Coordinate across US and India teams to ensure smooth information flow, effective knowledge transfer; ensure consistent execution across time zones.
- Ensure controls and compliance: Support appropriate accounting controls and documentation; ensure work is performed in alignment with established policies, procedures, and required evidence standards.
- Operational excellence & SLA ownership: Monitor and manage SLAs/KPIs for the process and team; plan capacity, prioritize workloads, and ensure consistent performance in a fast-paced environment.
- Process documentation & standardization: Maintain and continuously improve process documentation, ensuring procedures reflect current operations and are audit-ready.
- Continuous improvement: Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable process improvements to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and enhance stakeholder experience.
- Transitions and change: Lead transitions of new activities/processes for supported member firms, including risk and controls assessment, stabilization plans, training, and performance tracking.
- Technology enablement: Support identification, adoption, and optimization of enabling technologies (e.g., SAP, BlackLine, or similar tools) to improve automation and control.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
- 6+ years of relevant accounting/finance experience, including close, reconciliation, and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead work in a global shared services and/or distributed delivery model, strong coordination across time zones and teams
- Strong understanding of intermediate accounting principles and the ability to apply them in complex, high-judgment environments.
- Strong technical aptitude with accounting systems and process tools; ability to troubleshoot issues and drive adoption of standard processes.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including clear, proactive communication and the ability to influence partners up to senior management.
- Detail-oriented, strong ownership mindset, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Conceptualize, design and deliver high-quality solutions and insightful analysis on a variety of projects ranging in both complexity and scope
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
- Ability to travel 0-10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active CPA
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP/accounting platforms.
- Prior professional finance and/or public accounting firm experience.
- Experience with BlackLine or other reconciliation/workflow tools.
- People leadership experience (coaching, reviewing work, delegating, and developing team members).
- Experience driving process improvement/standardization initiatives (e.g., cycle-time reduction, automation, control strengthening).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, macros).
