Deloitte Tax LLP LLP seeks a Tax Senior in Houston, TX.
Work You’ll Do
Assist oil and gas clients to manage state tax liability including filing VDAs, filing redetermination on audits and refunds, and helping the clients navigate the industry with increased merger and acquisition activity. Provide severance, sales and excise tax compliance and consulting services to corporate clients in the industry through return review and filing. Collaborate with state auditors to develop written recommendations for tax settlements and resolution of severance and sales tax audit-related issues. Prepare sales and severance tax returns, including analyzing client revenue and sales data, compiling marketing cost deductions, and recommending tax accrual on certain expenses. Mediate between clients and state revenue departments to resolve state assessments, notices, and audits. Perform tax research on intricate tax topics around taxability of good and services, utilizing tax software and tools, including CCH. Will commute within the Houston, Texas area to consult with clients concerning the above job duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent)
- Eighteen months of experience as a Tax Senior or related occupation gaining oil and gas severance tax experience.
- Experience must include eighteen months of:
- utilizing Alteryx to develop workflows for oil and gas tax well incentives to target and obtain savings opportunities and file related tax workpapers;
- performing tax research utilizing tax software and tools, including CCH;
- preparing and filing sales and severance tax returns, which requires analyzing client revenue and sales data, compiling marketing cost deductions, and recommending tax accrual on certain expenses;
- performing mediations between clients and state revenue departments to resolve state assessments, notices, and audits;
- collaborating with state auditors to develop written recommendations for tax settlements and resolution of audit-related issues;
- performing indirect tax reverse audits to identify and prepare refund opportunities for Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies in multi-state jurisdiction;
- providing various litigation support services to clients in administrative appeals process;
- developing automated tasks in excel using VBA scripting and macros to streamline application preparation processes;
- mentoring and coaching junior team members.
- Less than 10% domestic travel outside of normal commuting distance.
