Position Summary

Oversees development and delivery of client-facing and internal communications on federal tax legislative developments affecting large corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals.

What you’ll do

Edits Tax News & Views, the Tax Policy Group’s weekly e-newsletter on emerging legislative issues, distributed to 38,000 client subscribers (typically, Tax VPs, Controllers, CFOs, and those in other tax management roles). Leads a team of writers to develop content for each issue (typically including coverage of hearings and mark-ups at the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee, status updates on significant tax legislation moving through Congress, and speeches and remarks by key congressional leaders and administration officials). Also coordinates creation and production of special editions announcing breaking news on issues of critical importance to the subscriber base (as events warrant).

Coordinates with Tax Policy Group leaders and subject matter experts in Washington National Tax to create in-depth eminence publications for an audience of over 60,000 client subscribers explaining the significance of newly enacted legislation or other major developments (such as White House budget releases) of critical concern to the client base.

  • Tracks emerging news developments based on daily reviews of tax press, political press, popular press, and tax writing committee websites, as well as intelligence reports from Tax Policy Group members based on conversations with legislative sources.
  • Develops story list for each weekly edition in consultation with Tax Policy Group writing team.
  • Writes original content and assigns story coverage to writing team members as needed.
  • Edits submissions from team members for accuracy, readability, grammar and punctuation, and conformity with company style.
  • Incorporates comments from reviewers in Tax Policy Group leadership (and National Tax Quality Assurance, as appropriate) into final copy.
  • Coordinates production and distribution with Marketing team.
  • For eminence publications, writes original copy, edits submissions from Tax Policy Group leaders and Washington National Tax specialists and pieces the various elements together to create a unified narrative.
  • Incorporates comments from reviewers (in the Tax Policy Group, Washington National Tax, and National Tax Quality Assurance as appropriate).
  • Coordinates design, production (including page proof reviews), and marketing messages with Marketing team.

The Team

Deloitte Tax’s Washington National Tax (WNT) professionals offer unique insight into the many factors affecting taxation, from the tax policies that drive federal tax legislation, to understanding the technical nuances that may create compliance exposure. Professionals in the WNT practice are a select group of specialists whose knowledge, skills, and experience are integral to understanding technical issues. Deloitte Tax’s WNT professionals work closely with the local office tax professionals and clients to evaluate complicated issues and help manage risk in today’s increasingly sophisticated business world.

The Tax Policy Group, which is part of WNT, brings together the information, news and analysis that clients and Deloitte Tax professionals need to stay on top of the latest developments in Congress and to help you guide your clients through the tax legislative maze. 

Required:

  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 – 3 days per week.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or other field emphasizing strong writing and critical thinking skills; background in accounting, finance, law, or related field helpful.
  • 5+ years’ experience writing original content and assigning story coverage to writing team members.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.

Preferred:

  • An advanced degree such as MS in Taxation or JD and/or JD/LLM
  • Working knowledge of the federal legislative process
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, DC, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to Washington, DC, and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $132,930 to $246,870.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
