Work You’ll Do
Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues encountered on engagements. Assist clients with fundamental tax planning and analysis, work to understand trust/estate-specific tax issues and identify and mitigate risk areas. Under the supervision of Tax Managers, prepare tax returns for individuals, trusts, and estates with high complexity. Review tax returns prepared by junior team members. Assist with tax planning opportunity identification, implementing tax planning projects, providing tax research and analysis for clients and keeping up-to-date on current tax practices and technical issues. Develop a working knowledge of the client's business and tax systems, take responsibility for clearing open items relating to assigned areas, meeting client deadlines, and contributing to the successful completion of projects. Mentor and coach junior team members and escalate issues when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
- Eighteen months as a Tax Senior or related occupation gaining experience providing tax planning services or preparing and reviewing client work papers and tax returns.
- Experience must include one year of:
- Preparing federal and state income tax returns and related informational tax forms for trusts and estates, including Form 1041, Form 8855, and Form 56;
- Reviewing and analyzing tax code and regulations for preparation of federal and state tax returns for Trust and Estate accounts;
- Reviewing transactional data using Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Trust Tax for preparation of federal and state tax returns for Trust and Estate accounts;
- Analyzing trust documents to determine how provisions will be treated for tax purposes, including classification of trust type and treatment of distribution provisions in the trust;
- Preparing annual consolidated statements for tax deferred accounts and preparing memos to documents clients' tax positions;
- Preparing federal, state, and international income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals;
- Utilizing tax software, including Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE and UltraTax to prepare federal, state, local, and international income tax returns, calculate estimated tax, and process filings;
- Utilizing tax research tools, including LexisNexis and CCH, to provide tax compliance and consulting services to various clients;
- Assisting with Trust and Estate matters relating to Internal Revenue Service and state tax examinations and drafting memos to analyze and respond to IDRs and various tax notices; and
- Preparing quarterly estimated tax payments for individuals and trusts, and preparing schedules for federal and state income tax returns.
