Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Senior in McLean, VA.

Work You’ll Do

Responsible for supporting holders of debt investments, including financial institutions, hedge funds, private equity firms, insurance companies, and real estate investment trusts and spearheading all aspects of tax information reporting, tax compliance, and tax planning for their debt portfolios. Work with client personnel to develop processes to gather, verify, transmit, and store debt portfolio data. Utilize software tools to confirm and verify client provided bond and trading data for accuracy and completeness. Calculate original issue discount (OID), market discount, premium, taxable gain, basis, and other taxable income and tax basis items. Utilize tax research tools, including LexisNexis, Thompson Reuters, Tax Notes, BNA, and CCH, to develop and confirm positions on areas, including taxation of debt instruments, interest nonaccrual, cost recovery, and bad debts. Develop and utilize tax and data management tools using VBA, Python, Advanced Excel, VBA, SQL, Tableau, and Alteryx. Contribute to practice optimization, eminence, and people development. Support pursuit of new client opportunities among holders of loan, bond, MBS, and ABS securities.



  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
  • Eighteen months of experience in quantitative and financial modeling and data analytics for tax reporting and analysis, including performing tax technical matter research.
  • Experience must include eighteen months of:
    • Building and utilizing tools in Python, Advanced Excel, VBA, SQL, Tableau, and Alteryx for data analytics and database management;
    • Performing taxable income calculations, including interest, original issue discount, market discount, loan modification, and gain/loss on disposition for distressed loans, mortgage-backed securities (MBS), asset-backed securities (ABS), and other debt instruments;
    • Utilizing Alteryx to develop workflows to facilitate data processing and reduce errors, and utilizing SQL to analyze trade data and identify erroneous trades and sanity checks;
    • Modeling cash flow schedules for securitized products, calculating accruals (OID, MD, Premium), basis, taxable income, and gain/loss, and analyzing collateral cash flows;
    • Researching securities using Intex, Bloomberg, and CCH;
    • Analyzing client portfolios consisting of municipal and corporate bonds, PIK instruments, MBS/ABS, REOs, and whole loans;
    • Coordinating review notes from internal managers and clients, and applying changes to deliverables and processes;
    • Interacting directly with the client on questions and issues to facilitate tax calculations and tax analysis, streamlining existing processes, and developing transformations for digital technology process implementations; and
    • Performing financial analysis and applying financial models for debts and investments to analyze taxable income.
