Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Senior Manager in San Jose, CA.

Work You’ll Do

Assist clients with state tax matters and such challenges as analyzing and applying unique tax laws across multiple states, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Provide services, including business restructuring, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Provide compliance and consulting services to partnership, corporate, and individual clients. Responsible for the diagnosis, solution, development and implementation of clients' tax needs. Oversee client accounts through delivering all tax consulting services to the client and bringing in specialists when necessary. Oversee complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries. Participate in engagements requiring tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues such as deferred tax liability issues and tax implications of financing techniques. Assume tax-planning responsibilities for partnership, corporate, and individual clients. Supervise assignments by Tax Managers, Tax Seniors, and Tax Consultants. Responsible for the development and motivation of staff and for providing leadership, counseling and guidance. Collaborate with senior management and leadership to develop training materials for subordinates with respect to corporate, private equity and advanced partnership clientele. Will require commuting to client sites within the greater San Jose, CA area to perform the above job duties.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Economics, Law, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
  • Four years of experience applying state and local tax rules to corporate and business entities, including partnerships and limited liability companies.
  • Experience must include four years of:
    • Performing state and local tax research utilizing tax software and tools, including GoSystem, RIA CheckPoint, BNA, and CCH;
    • Performing state taxation services, including state apportionments and modifications, based on varying state regulations;
    • Mediating between client and state revenue departments to resolve state tax notices, audits, and other tax-related issues/inquiries;
    • Preparing complex tax technical memos, and responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and various tax notices;
    • Providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, state tax audit defense, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;
    • Preparing and reviewing state income/franchise tax extensions, quarterly estimates, K-1s, and returns for pass-through entities and corporations based on varying state regulations for the apportionment of income and nexus creating activities;
    • Analyzing complex state issues, including master limited partnerships and state audit provisions;
    • Preparing and filing withholding and composite returns for partnerships and limited liability companies in multi-state jurisdictions;
    • Conducting tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions on behalf of buyers; and
    • Interacting directly with senior management of the team and clients to discuss tax issues, and supervising full life cycle of engagements, including staffing, budgeting, and closing out projects.
  • Less than 20% domestic travel outside of normal commuting distance.
  • Salary: $153,860.00 - $285,740.00/year.
