Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Manager in New York, NY.

 

Work You’ll Do

Work directly with clients and oversee tax engagement teams on indirect tax matters. Maintain and develop strong client relationships on various state and local indirect tax consulting/compliance engagements. Act as a trusted business advisor to clients on a variety of issues, including sales & use and excise tax overpayment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures. Oversee engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing. Assist with drafting and presenting new proposals to new and existing clients. Provide leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team. Provide state and local indirect tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to a diverse client base in various industry sectors. Identify complex tax issues and provide tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
  • Five years of state and local indirect tax experience, including sales/use tax.
  • Experience must include five years of:
    • Utilizing tax software, including Superforms and Vertex, and tax research databases, including CCH, LexisNexis, and BNA, to perform research on state tax matters;
    • Researching and analyzing tax issues on client engagements, including state and local indirect tax implications, availability of indirect tax credits or exemptions, and changes in state tax law;
    • Assisting with engagement profitability, client billing, and engagement team resources, drafting and presenting new proposals to new and existing clients, and assisting with client onboarding processes;
    • Assisting with multiple work streams and associated deliverables/work products through all phases of the client engagement life cycle;
    • Reviewing sales tax implications for clients in multiple industries to assist in determining their product/service characterization from a US sales/use tax perspective in various states and determine sales/use tax applicability; and
    • Assisting clients in determining their multi-state nexus footprint for multi-state indirect tax compliance.
  • In the alternative, the employer is willing to accept no degree and seven years of experience as stated above.
  • Experience must include one year of:
    • Performing sales and use tax reverse audits, including the identification, analysis, quantification, and preparation of refund claims for clients in multi-state jurisdictions;
    • Writing technical memorandums for administrative tax appeals and proposed state tax settlements;
    • Assisting in due diligence for multinational and domestic companies concerning indirect tax postures for mergers and acquisitions transactions; and
    • Executing complex multi-state tax issues, including the review, analysis, and construction of tax-effect schedules and the writing of technical correspondence for audit defense and in the representing of clients on sales/use tax audit examinations, including in-person representation meetings with the state tax auditors and audit supervisors.
