Work You’ll Do
Work directly with clients and oversee tax engagement teams on direct tax matters. Maintain and develop strong client relationships on various state and local direct tax consulting/compliance engagements. Act as a trusted business advisor to clients on a variety of state and local tax compliance and consultative matters, including tax research and analysis, audit defense and tax controversy reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures, direct tax implications resulting from legislative changes and federal tax reform, nexus analysis and sales factor sourcing of service revenue planning. Oversee engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing. Assist with drafting and presenting new proposals to new and existing clients. Provide leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team. Provide state and local direct tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to a diverse client base in various industry sectors. Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues and tax implications.

Requirements
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
- Five years of experience preparing and reviewing corporate income and franchise tax returns, estimates, extensions, and provisions in multistate jurisdictions.
- Experience must include five years of:
- Providing state and local income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, and state tax audit defense, and providing state technical support services for financial accounting and reporting for income taxes for multistate companies;
- Utilizing tax software and tools, including CorpTax, Superforms, RIA CheckPoint, BNA, and CCH, and tax automation tools, including Alteryx, to perform tax research and review U.S. and multistate income tax returns for business entities;
- Performing state taxation services, including state apportionments, modifications, and state and local credits calculations, based on varying state statutes and regulations;
- Assisting with mediating between client and state taxing authorities to resolve state tax notices, audit, and other tax-related issues/inquiries;
- Preparing complex state tax technical memos, responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and various tax notices;
- Utilizing CCH, RIA CheckPoint, and Bloomberg terminal to research and solve complex tax issues;
- Analyzing complex state tax issues, including state audit provisions, multi-state corporate conversions, and tax restructuring issues;
- Providing due diligence for state-related tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions;
- Assisting with overseeing engagement workflow and engagement team resources, and mentoring and training junior team members; and
- Providing New England state-specific technical/legislative guidance and compliance assistance to individuals in offices outside of the New England area.
- Position requires approximately 10% travel.
