We are looking for a detail-oriented State Income Tax Manager to join our State Amended Return Practice and work directly with leadership and a dedicated team to deliver services to our clients as well as enhance our technology tools.
The Team
Deloitte’s State Amended Return practice is subset of our National Multistate Tax Services practice (NMTS) and part of our Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group which is one of largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practices in the United States with more than 1,000 professionals nationwide.
Our State Amended Return practice has deep technical knowledge of corporate income tax amended reporting requirements and develops proprietary technologies and tools to solve clients’ challenges. We approach every client and challenge with a sense of urgency to consistently deliver exceptional service, and our team operates on a national basis, which provides the flexibility to work on a variety of clients, locations, and industries.
Work you’ll do
As a State Amended Return Manager within the Multistate Tax Services group, you will work directly with leadership and our dedicated state amended team to provide state amended return services to a diverse client base in a variety of industry sectors. You will work directly with clients, manage the tax engagement team, have access to state-specific and technical specialists when needed, have the support of others in MTS that have deep relationships with our clients, and be connected to a strong support system from leadership to ensure you are set up for success in your role and career.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with development and enhancement of proprietary technology and tools
- Managing a phased project from kick-off through completion, ensuring that key milestones are met, and quality deliverables are consistently delivered to clients
- Managing tax engagement team and engagement billing
- Assisting with marketing and sales efforts
- Providing leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of other State Amended Return team members
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- One of the following accreditations obtained:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- 5+ years’ progressive corporate state income tax compliance experience
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel - especially IF/THEN and other logical formulas (Visual Basic experience not required)
- Current or recent supervisory and project management experience
- Ability to travel 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
Preferred
- Proficiency with state tax research
- Adept communicator with strong writing skills
- Previous public accounting experience with corporate state income tax compliance focus
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,900 to $203,060.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
