Work you’ll do
As a Senior within Deloitte’s Tax Controversy Services practice, you will be part of an experienced team of professionals committed to resolving clients’ federal tax controversies and providing clients with in-depth knowledge of IRS practice and procedure. Deloitte’s Federal Tax Controversy professionals work to resolve a wide variety of issues with the IRS and are well-versed in achieving the best possible outcomes on behalf of Deloitte’s clients. Many of our professionals have worked, for example, at the IRS and Treasury as executives, counsel, appeals officers, and revenue agents.
Responsibilities will include:
- Prepare federal interest and/or complex, multi-year federal tax computations for varying purposes including financial statement reporting, tax planning, Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) and litigation settlement, interest reviews, and IRS refund claims.
- Assist clients and Deloitte engagement teams with federal interest computations, federal tax computations, and IRS account related matters.
- Prepare written correspondence to the IRS and Deloitte engagement teams regarding federal interest computations, federal tax computations, and IRS account related matters.
- Communicate with the IRS on behalf of clients to resolve federal interest computations, federal tax computations, and/or IRS account related matters.
The Team
At Deloitte Tax LLP, our Federal Tax Controversy team provides dispute resolution services to clients with respect to all types of tax issues, including, for example, those involving transfer pricing, the section 41 research credit, and the section 48 investment tax credit. Our Federal Tax Controversy specialists serve clients ranging from Fortune 100 C-corporations to sophisticated private equity funds and individuals. Our team is committed to leveraging our research and advocacy expertise to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of federal interest computation and/or complex, multi-year federal tax computation experience
- Knowledge of Tax Interest Netting software or other comparable interest software
- Knowledge of Bloomberg Tax & Accounting Corporate Tax Analyzer software
- IRS, Treasury, Big 4 / large / boutique accounting firm, law firm, or relevant industry experience.
- A federal interest or multi-year federal tax computation subject matter expert
- Ability to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing able to obtain:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM
- Ability to balance multiple assignments and other responsibilities while meeting prescribed deadlines.
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent research and writing skills
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $79,100 - 146,900.
