Position Summary

What you will do

The Senior Manager will play a critical role in accelerating the growth of Deloitte by leading the planning, analysis, and evaluation of the firm’s largest and most strategic investments. The role is entirely project-based and serves as a senior advisor and thought leader that partners with senior leadership and operating executives across all four businesses of Deloitte (Consulting, Advisory, Tax, Audit). The role is not external client-facing and requires limited travel for project-related meetings with business partners. 

About the team

The position is part of Deloitte’s US Corporate Development function and sits within the Strategic Finance team in the Deloitte New-venture Accelerator (DNA). DNA is an internal strategic accelerator that drives the growth of the firm by supporting Deloitte’s largest and most strategic investments. Many investments supported by the Strategic Finance team align with the firm’s Strategic Growth Opportunities (SGOs) and include organic and inorganic investments in technology and services businesses. The team is remote, and the role can work from home or from one of Deloitte’s local offices if desired.

Examples of projects that the Strategic Finance team supports include:

  • Organic investments related to cutting-edge technologies such as AI, Cyber, Cloud and Blockchain
  • M&A deals and ecosystem partnerships to provide Deloitte with access to new technologies
  • Major investments in high-growth services areas such as Sustainability, Climate and Equity
  • Strategic pricing projects to develop value-based pricing strategies and tools for new offerings
  • Partnering with the firm’s Investment Finance team to conduct strategic reviews of major in-flight investments to assess performance against strategic objectives and financial targets

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the role will vary depending on the type of project and examples of typical responsibilities include:

  • Independently lead all aspects of a wide range of team projects with minimal supervision including:
    • Develop game plan for projects including overall approach, resources, deliverables, and timeline
    • Identify creative approaches to solve business and technical problems
    • Oversee the creation of project deliverables including complex financial models and executive-level presentations
    • Manage overall project execution including stakeholder and risk management
    • Manage, influence, and provide guidance to project resources including resources from within the DNA team as well as resources from the business
    • Provide intellectual leadership including influencing executives to get buy-in, gain alignment and to resolve complex project issues
    • Ensure all project deliverables are of a high quality and appropriate for senior executive and Board-level audiences including solid and defensible logic and rationale as well as thoroughly reviewed and accurate deliverables
  • Serve as senior advisor, thought leader and business partner to senior leaders across the firm to help drive the growth and success of Deloitte’s businesses including:
    • Collaborate with and advise senior leaders to develop business cases and operating plans for large-scale organic and inorganic investments
    • Serve as thought leader and subject matter expert on economics of technology businesses, industry best practices, and strategic finance concepts; become a resource that is sought out by senior business leaders for advice
    • Evaluate complex business decisions leveraging quantitative and qualitative analysis and provide thoughtful data-based recommendations to leadership
    • Educate business leaders on fundamental concepts and best practices related to technology-based businesses
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with leaders in Corporate Development, Finance, Strategy, and other teams within the business
  • Continually evolve and improve the team’s approach to financial modeling, process design, presentation deliverables, use of external contractor resources and other aspects of team operations
  • Recruit, manage, develop, and mentor other team members

 

Qualifications:

  • Senior strategic finance/corporate development executive with the following profile:
    • Undergraduate degree and MBA in Finance or related areas
    • 15+ years of experience in finance roles including both strategic finance / corporate development and operational FP&A roles
    • 10+ years of experience specifically in investment banking, corporate development, strategic finance consulting or strategic finance roles
    • Experience leading corporate development or strategic finance teams particularly in technology-heavy businesses
    • Experience in subscription and technology-based businesses
    • Experience operating at the Senior Manager (internal) or VP (external) level preferred
  • Technical financial experience including:
    • Building operating plans and financial models for new business opportunities (organic and inorganic)
    • Proven track record of success as Finance Lead on major investment projects including leading business case development workstreams involving cross-functional teams
    • Leading financial planning processes including budget, forecast and long-range plan development
    • Experience designing or managing complex business processes involving cross-functional stakeholders
    • Identifying and analyzing financial and operational metrics for technology-based businesses as well as industry-standard investment metrics
    • Strong understanding of finance and accounting concepts including ability to incorporate technical accounting guidance into financial models
  • Leadership experience including:
    • Advising CEOs/GMs on launching, investing, and growing technology businesses
    • Providing recommendations and insights for strategic and operational decisions
    • Excellent communication skills including partnering with and influencing senior executive leaders
    • Comfortable challenging senior executives in a thoughtful and respectful manner using sound logic based on data
    • Experience operating as a senior Finance leader in public company environments strongly preferred
    • Strong organization, written and verbal communication skills and ability to prioritize in the face of multiple demands with focus on critical details
    • Experience managing and developing staff
