Position Summary

Support sustainable urban programming by advancing net-zero systems, urban resilience, pollution and waste reduction, local governance and equitable access to services, and inclusive green jobs. The program demonstrates its continued commitment to tackle the multitude of urban challenges and provides an integrated platform to advance net zero systems, increase urban resilience, reduce pollution and waste, improve local governance and equity, and mainstream inclusive green jobs.

The Senior Gender and Social Inclusion Expert is responsible for providing technical gender and social inclusion input into Green Cities activities, including integrating recommendations from the gender and social inclusion analysis into work plans and the MEL plan. The position will also be responsible for facilitating and coordinating gender and social inclusion experts based overseas.

Responsibilities:
The Senior Gender and Social Inclusion Expert must have:
• Experience serving as a gender advisor or in a similar role
• Experience providing gender & /or inclusive development support & capacity building for a range of partners & sectors
• Experience overseeing gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) experts in multiple countries
• Experience supporting participatory processes
• Experience integrating gender/inclusive dev. into climate/ env. programming, esp. in an urban setting
• Experience developing gender-sensitive MEL plans
• Align GC activities with USAID’s 2020 Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy and promote the reduction of gender disparities in access to, control over, and benefit from resources, wealth, opportunities and services; reduce gender-based violence (GBV)
• Work in collaboration with the field GESI Specialist to implement the project’s Gender and Inclusive Development Plan (GIDAP), in compliance with USAID and contract requirements
• Contribute to the project work plan, capacity building and other technical activities and deliverables, especially through a GESI lens
• Design indicators to measure outcomes of GESI activities
• Review proposed Program activities to assess GESI impact and support achievement of GESI-related goals and targets
• Plan and deliver trainings to project staff, counterparts, and beneficiaries on issues related to GESI and the energy sector

 Qualifications:

Required

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Masters Degree
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role
  • Ability to travel up to 25% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in a relevant discipline
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience, including in similar role(s) supporting GESI-related activities for donor projects in development work; international experience is preferred
    • Strong understanding of/experience with gender mainstreaming/gender integration within the context of energy
    • Populations and development programming
    • Experience developing GESI strategies, trainings and tools that can be integrated into program interventions
    • Professional experience in the energy sector is preferred
    • Sound computer skills including knowledge Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint
    • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, communications, and research capabilities
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
    • Self-starter, willing to take initiative, remain accountable, take ownership of work products and escalate issues as appropriate
    • Dedicated to professional development, improvement and open to receiving constructive feedback
