Policy & Government Relations – Summer Intern
Deloitte LLP’s Policy & Government Relations (PGR) team is looking for qualified policy and legislative interns who are eager to learn about how a professional services firm engages in advocacy and policymaking at the federal, state, and local levels. As an intern, you will work with diverse groups of professionals, gain first-hand exposure to the tools, processes, and services PGR provides to its internal stakeholders, and learn how PGR engages with policymakers, third-party organizations, and coalitions.
Work you’ll do
You will support the PGR team by researching, tracking, and reporting on a wide variety of legislative and policy issues at the federal and state levels. You will develop written products, which may include presentations, memos, policy briefs, and fact sheets. You may also have the opportunity to attend congressional hearings, policy briefings, think tank panels, and other events and provide briefings about those events to the team.
A successful intern will have:
- Proven experience working independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines
- Proven excellent research skills and attention to detail
The team
PGR engages on various public policy issues both directly through engagement with policymakers and indirectly through participation in organizations, such as trade associations, business coalitions, and think tanks. The team also provides policy analysis, political intelligence, strategic insights, and guidance to internal stakeholders, including business leaders and client account teams.
Qualifications
Required:
- Undergraduate rising senior majoring in political science, government, public policy/administration, or a related field (Graduation Date Spring 2026)
- Experience working with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, and Word
- Ability to travel up to 2-3 weeks during the internship
- The start date for this position will be June 2025 (internship duration approx. 8 weeks)
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment
Preferred:
- Strong academic record, minimum GPA of 3.4
- Strong understanding of policy environment and/or experience working for or closely with Capitol Hill, state or local government, policy organizations (e.g., think tanks, advocacy groups), or in another government relations-related role
- Prior experience working on issues related to financial services, education and workforce development, immigration, climate, technology, or diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and/or previous consulting experience
Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
This role does not convert into a full-time position.

This compensation range is specific to Washington, DC, and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $32/hour.
