Policy & Government Relations – Summer Intern
Deloitte LLP’s Policy & Government Relations (PGR) team is looking for qualified policy and legislative interns who are eager to learn about how a professional services firm engages in advocacy and policymaking at the federal, state, and local levels. As an intern, you will work with diverse groups of professionals, gain first-hand exposure to the tools, processes, and services we provide to our internal stakeholders, and learn how we engage with policymakers, third-party organizations, and coalitions.
Work you’ll do
You will support the PGR team by researching, tracking, and reporting on a wide variety of legislative and policy issues at the federal and state levels. You will develop written products, which may include presentations, memos, policy briefs, and fact sheets. You may also have the opportunity to attend congressional hearings, political briefings, think tank panels, and other events and provide briefings about those events to the team.
The successful intern will have:
- Proven experience working independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines
- Proven excellent research skills and attention to detail
The team
PGR engages on various public policy issues both directly through engagement with policymakers and indirectly through participation in organizations, such as trade associations, business coalitions, and think tanks. The team also provides policy analysis, political intelligence, strategic insights, and guidance to internal stakeholders, including business leaders and client account teams.
Qualifications
Required:
- Undergraduate rising senior majoring in political science, government, public policy/administration, or a related field
- Experience working with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, and Word
- Must by legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
- Ability to travel up to 2-3 weeks during the internship
- The start date for this position will be June 2024
Preferred:
- Strong academic record, minimum GPA of 3.4
- Strong understanding of policy environment and/or experience working for or closely with Capitol Hill, state or local government, policy organizations (e.g., think tanks, advocacy groups), or in another government relations-related role
- Prior experience working on issues related to financial services, education and workforce development, immigration, climate, technology, or diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and/or previous consulting experience
