The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (The Center), develops and publishes insightful content to support Deloitte’s Life Sciences & Health Care Practice (LSHC). The Center's goal is to create market opportunities by engaging clients and prospects in the health care system with thoughtful and useful perspectives on emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities. Content created by the Center is published and deployed as research reports, blogs, and an internal newsletter for our practitioners. The Center was formed in 2005 and continues to evolve the research agenda to meet the needs of Deloitte’s client service professionals and our clients.

THE CENTER TEAM

The Center includes researchers, policy experts, and marketing and operational professionals, working together to develop and disseminate valid, interesting, and useful content to support the LSHC practice’s positioning in the market. The Center is one of seven research centers that form Research & Insights, part of Deloitte’s Clients and Market Growth function.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

The health policy team at the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions works with the Research Director to provide policy analysis and insights to Deloitte professionals and to help support the development of policy-relevant research content together with the Center’s research team. As a key member of the Center’s policy team, the Health Policy Manager will contribute to the advancement and quality of the Center’s research/thought leadership outputs. These include white papers, policy reports, client presentations, case studies, articles, etc. that integrate information from a wide range of primary and secondary sources. The aim of these deliverables is to provide internal practitioners and the business development organization a competitive edge in interacting with clients. The Health Policy Manager will:

  • Provide analysis of federal legislation and regulations in health care that affect health plans, providers, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers
  • Track developments at the state policy level of interest to Deloitte professionals and clients
  • Communicate and clarify policy implications for Deloitte clients, client teams, leadership
  • Develop working relationship with a network of Deloitte’s Life Sciences and Health Care and Government and Public Sector practitioners in order to understand the practice’s strategic priorities in these areas
  • Identifies trends and specific areas that warrant further research development in alignment with the practice’s strategic priorities or educational activities for practitioners
  • Participates in development of content for an internal weekly newsletter

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience Qualifications

  • Undergraduate BA or BS.
  • Master’s degree in public health, health care administration, or business an advantage
  • At least 5-8 years professional experience
  • Previous position(s) in consulting, public policy, government relations, academia, research related to health care – health plans, providers, or life sciences companies.
  • Candidate should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of major aspects of the U.S. health delivery system and key concepts of interest in health services research
  • Preference for candidates in the Washington, DC area, but remote candidates may be considered

Policy Analysis Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Congress and key committees with oversight of health care and the legislative process, federal agencies that regulate the industry (e.g., Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration), and executive branch priorities in health care
  • Comfort with the regulatory process in health care (e.g., analyzing proposed and final rules for impact on health care providers, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers)
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative research into actionable insights
  • Solid external brand in health policy with working relationships in various areas of the industry, federal government, and on the Hill a plus
  • Have exposure to and training in analytical/statistical methods and interpretation of statistical results; Excel and PowerPoint experience a must; Preferred experience in survey design and with statistical software tools such as SPSS®

  • Strong people skills with an ability to shape/influence the strategic thinking of senior business executives (internal and external) on emerging issues/trends
  • Collegial and team-oriented in approach
  • Build relationships and credibility with internal clients by demonstrating consultative skills that generate demand for projects that are aligned with firm and Center priorities
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexibility and adaptability required
