Position Summary

M&A Strategy & Diligence Senior Manager

The US M&A and Restructuring (M&A/R) Offering Portfolio advises our client’s as they seek to change the nature of their business and competitive position in the market through inorganic means (acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, and joint ventures). By providing M&A and restructuring services from beginning to end, we bring a large scope of capabilities to the market and opportunity for our practice and firm.

Work you’ll do

As a Senior Manager, you will sell, lead, and deliver complex strategic engagements that help our clients unlock value through inorganic growth and value creation. Senior Managers are expected to contribute to the firm's growth and development in a variety of ways. You will be responsible for engagement management:

  • Set and lead engagement objectives by defining the scope, plan and budget; mobilize and manage multiple engagement teams / workstreams; define deliverable structure and content; facilitate buy-in of proposed strategies from top management levels at the client; direct on-time, quality delivery of work products; manage engagement economics; manage engagement risk.
  • Execute on multiple M&A Strategy projects concurrently and working with Manager-level personnel to ensure excellence in project work.
  • Own and present project deliverables that reflect a high standard of analysis and reflect the engagement contract.
  • Manage day to day interactions with executive clients and sponsors; develop and maintain contact with top decision makers at key clients.
  • Participate and lead aspects of the proposal development process; contributing to the development of proposal pricing strategies. Develop and maintain relationships with top executives and decision makers at key clients, organize and lead pursuit teams, participate and lead aspects of the proposal development process, contribute to the development of proposal pricing strategies.
  • Perform role of counselor and coach; actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities; provide leadership and support for delivery teams and staff in local offices.
  • Mentor and develop staff through informal coaching and day-to-day project interactions.
  • Improve internal processes, and promote knowledge sharing in the team, by contributing to the community of practice, blogs, and other forms of market eminence. Develop "point- of-view" documents, participate in public speaking events, get published in industry periodicals.

 

The team

M&A Strategy and Diligence serves as strategic advisors to Deloitte’s senior most clients across corporations and investors as they contemplate inorganic strategies including M&A based growth options, portfolio rationalizations, buy/build/partner decisions, target scans, and diligence on the buy and sell side. The Strategy and Diligence practice is one of multiple practices within the M&A/R Portfolio – collectively these practices bring together market leading capabilities across the deal lifecycle.


Qualifications

A candidate must have M&A or M&A Service Delivery Experience in the following areas:

  • Providing corporate and private equity buyers with a broad continuum of advisory services to support mergers, acquisitions, carve-outs, and partnerships including developing strategy, target scans, and commercial and operational diligence.
  • Partnering with senior executives to define how they employ M&A – in alignment with their corporate strategy.
  • Experience either in client service or in a consultative role within a corporate (e.g., Corp Dev, Business Development, or Strategy).
  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years consulting in a strategy consulting practice; alternatively an MBA with 6+ years relevant work experience is acceptable.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in consulting strongly preferred.
  • Deep experience managing and interacting with C-Suite stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply practical experience with communications, culture, and change management.
  • Ability to perform analysis and synthesize data into useful insights.
  • Experience with staff development and eagerness to mentor junior practitioners.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS PowerPoint).
  • An advanced degree (MBA; PhD; JD; MD; Masters) is preferred.
