Work you’ll do 

Data Center Technician should demonstrate common IT knowledge and physical ability to provide services for the installation and on-going support of data center assets to include network, storage, and compute equipment as well as supporting voice, video, and other data center services.  

  • Provide infrastructure support including: Installation, termination, testing, labeling, and decommissioning of CAT5/6 Copper and Fiber cabling and patch systems.
  • Perform organization, formation, and dressing of cables to defined standards
  • Exhibit quality workmanship for all tasks and maintain data center space cleanliness
  • Troubleshoot of copper and fiber cabling (including multimode and single mode)
  • Install of Cage, Cabinets, Ladder Rack, Fiber Tray
  • Install and remove communications, server equipment, and pluggable power cabling per defined standards
  • Complete electronic documentation of all work completed for change requests and incidents Report status via email and ticketing system 
  • Perform daily walkthroughs of data center checking for failures and areas for improvement

      Required Qualifications 

      Candidate should be experienced in the installation, modification, and repair of data center structured infrastructure cabling associated with data center equipment to include copper and fiber optic cabling and patch panel environments.

      The ideal candidate must possess a professional, can-do commitment to delivering excellent customer experiences. Ability to empathize with customer concerns and have a focus on providing timely and accurate solutions. Must have a strong desire to learn and recommend new technologies. Must be able to balance multiple projects while documenting and troubleshooting multiple customers and systems. 

  • Associates or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university plus 5-7 years of professional experience 
  • 1-3 years Network Technician experience
  • Active US Secret security clearance 
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification
  • BICSI Installer Certification, Data Center Technician, or equivalent IT certification
  • Ability to lift 60-75 lbs.
  • Must be local to client location in Radford, VA - position is onsite. Candidates must be available/on-call for emergencies that can occur outside of normal business hours
