Work you’ll do:

The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) provides security support for information systems throughout the Risk Management Framework (RMF) lifecycle. The ISSO works closely with business and technical stakeholders to select and help implement security controls as outlined within NIST SP 800 series and agency guidelines and leads information systems through the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process. In addition, the ISSO advises on the design and development of secure systems architecture as well as industry best practices and information systems technologies available to meet security requirements. ISSO requires strong technical skills across a variety of technologies such as multi-tiered architecture, databases, application servers, COTS products, and cloud solutions (AWS) and understanding security and dataflow within these components. Vulnerability Management(VM) experience.

  • Document System Security Plans (SSPs) and security impact analyses, reviews and update supporting security artifacts including RA, CP and CP test and evidence, generates risk reports, and facilitates continuous monitoring process for authorized systems
  • Provide expert recommendations / guidance on best practices to mitigate vulnerabilities on information systems, or system components to ensure RMF requirements are incorporated into proposed solutions
  • Ensure all system users and people with security responsibilities receive their annual awareness training
  • Establish, implement and maintain the Cybersecurity program by implementing and enforcing all Information System (IS) cybersecurity policies and procedures, as defined by cybersecurity related documentation
  • Prepare and submit Authority to Operate (ATO) packages
  • Ensure scanning and auditing on all assigned systems is performed and support project team with vulnerability remediation.
  • Participate in the CR process (i.e., reviewing/approving change requests and conducting impact analyses) and the development phases of the system life cycle
  • Support government leads with meetings, conferences, presentations, and briefings as requested

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Active Secret security clearance required
  • Security+ Certification
  • 3+ years of working in the field of cybersecurity compliance and successfully completed and achieved ATO approval for several systems
  • Experienced ISSO working with multiple system Security and Assessment Authorization documentation including SSP, FIPS199, PIA, Risk assessment, etc.
  • Experience working with NIST 800-53, FIPS 199, NIST RMF and some Cloud Systems experience (AWS) is required.
  • Experience running vulnerability and compliance scans using Nessus.
  • Experience conducting security control assessments using NIST SP 800-53Rev 5.


  • Prior professional services or federal consulting experience
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and being a self-starter.
  • Experience with High Value Asset (HVA) systems
  • Experience with agile project management and development methodology as well as DevSecOps are preferred.
