Work you’ll do
In the role of a FOIA Document Analyst you will assist a federal agency with responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests including but not limited to the following responsibilities:
- Receive, review, and analyze new FOIA requests and determine if they are sufficient to process based on the FOIA and/or PA.
- Conduct record searches and apply lawful exemptions and redactions.
- Release responsive records to requesters within prescribed timeframes.
- Provide information on FOIA, and client FOIA procedures and processes to employees and FOIA requesters.
- Process records in response to litigation requests, with same deliverables as non-litigation requests.
- Receive new FOIA requests and triage them (reviewing and assigning) to ensure they are sufficient.
- Process complex FOIA requests by conducting record searches, reviewing, organizing, and analyzing search results, applying lawful exemptions, and redacting responsive records in compliance with FOIA policy and established program procedures and practices.
- Exercise discretion and judgment to determine whether records are responsive to FOIA requests and identify and redact information which is protected by FOIA.
- Prepare correspondence to requestors and prepare the final document packages.
- Release redacted responsive records to the requester.
- Track and manage FOIA requests from receipt to production in an electronic case management system.
- Work independently and be accustomed to effectively and efficiently working at a high-performance level with minimal input from program leadership.
- Demonstrate a foundational understanding of the client environment and overall project scope.
- Identify and solve problems using analysis, experience, and judgment.
- Work in a team lead capacity as part of a team of four that is process oriented and deadline driven.
- Use professional oral and written communication skills.

Our teams apply eDiscovery leading practices and leverage analytics technology, as well as traditional legal research and writing, to assist government attorneys and agency staff through the litigation or information request process.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors Degree required
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- 2+ years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or litigation-related document review requests; either at the federal service or equivalent public or private sector.
- Ability to travel 20%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Familiar with the nine (9) FOIA exemptions.
- Experience/familiarity with following FOIA and PA tools: SecureRelease™, Adobe Pro, FOIAXpress, FOIAonline, Relativity
Preferred:
- Prior professional services or federal consulting experience
- Active Public Trust Clearance or higher preferred
- Previous team lead or supervisory experience preferred
- 3+ years of professional work experience
