Position Summary

Database Migration Engineer (Cloud Engineering) BTA

An opportunity to work with a dedicated team of experts in the emerging areas of cloud technology and help our clients achieve their technological innovation.

Work you’ll do

As a Database Migration Engineer you will be taking on different responsibilities based on project scope and current phase of the migration program. Typical project will include migration of database from on-premise to cloud platform (AWS/GCP/Azure). This includes lift and shift migration as well as database re-platform and cross-database migration (E.g. Oracle to MySQL, MySQL to MS SQL Server).

 

Key Responsibilities include:

§  Develop templates to gather current state and target state information for the workloads

§  Build application target landing zone on cloud environment

§  Use tools such as AWS DMS, AWS SCT, Azure Database Migration Service, Google Cloud Data Migration Service to migrate database

§  Develop migration playbooks / runbooks

§  Conduct POCs and develop POVs for new migration tools based on client requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Role Specific Expectations:

  • in IT, Database administration
  • in database installation, migration including database re-platform and cross-database migration
  • engineering, information technology or related field
  • Previous experience of working with RDBMS (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, PostGreSQL, MariaDB); able to tune the performance
  • Experience with upgrading DB Servers from 2003/2008 to later versions
  • Experience with migrating Onprem DBs to Cloud PAAS services (RDS, AzureSQL etc.) using various DB migration methods and approaches
  • Experience with DB Migration from Licensed to OpenSource DB (MS SQL Server/Oracle to MySQL / PostGreSQL DB)
  • Experience in Data Modelling, ETL/ELT workflow management desired & ability to write, tune SQL queries desired
  • Associate cloud certification AWS / Azure / GCP
  • Previous experience in any of the database tools like Oracle Goldengate, Oracle data pump, Oracle RMAN, Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Migration Assistant or cloud native migration tooling such as AWS DMS, AWS SCT, Azure Database Migration Service, Google Cloud Data Migration Service
  • Hands on experience with python or other scripting language is preferred
  • Experience in database performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven track record on learning new technologies and tools based on project and client requirements
