Consulting Corporate Development – Investment Center of Excellence Senior Manager

Role Description

Consulting Corporate Development is looking for a high performing Senior Manager to develop and manage an Investment Center of Excellence focused on the evaluation and analysis of large-scale capital investments on a full-time basis.

Role Description Detail:

The Senior Manager is responsible for developing the investment theses to support large scale capital investments for Deloitte Consulting. This includes vetting underlying strategic vision and operating assumptions required to drive sound investment decisions and building the financial business case to justify investment. This role supports executive leaders of the practice in making sound investment decisions. It also works closely with business leaders seeking investment to refine and build their cases for investment

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of investment theses to support large scale capital investments
  • Building financial business cases to support new capital investments
  • Developing appropriate financial and associated operating metrics to support investment performance management
  • Defining the scope of financial and other related analyses required to build the investment thesis
  • Vetting the strategic and operational assumptions underlying potential new investments
  • Evaluating economic risk profiles of potential investments, recommending mitigation strategies including staged investment approaches
  • Making recommendations to executive leadership regarding new proposed investments
  • Establishing processes, methods and standards for investment cases
  • Developing and managing a team of junior resources to support team objectives
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to business leaders throughout the investment process
  • Supporting the investment approval and governance processes

The Senior Manager will work closely with leaders of high-growth practice areas and business leaders responsible for development of new offerings and solutions. He or She will also work closely with DC and US Executive leadership and US Corporate Development teams. The Senior Manager role will lead teams composed of full-time Corporate Development resources, project resources from client service and team members from other functions within Deloitte Consulting and Deloitte Services. 

Key Activities and Capabilities:

Key activities include:

  • Evaluating potential investments and developing compelling recommendations based on analysis
  • Building financial business cases for investment inclusive of financial statements, performance metrics and key assumptions
  • Structuring executive presentations (investment theses) to present a compelling analysis and case for/against investment
  • Supporting the process for governance approvals of investment
  • Advising leaders of potential investments to refine and strengthen their cases for investment
  • Making recommendations to Consulting Executive Leadership regarding investment decisions across portfolio
  • Supporting the investment approval and governance process

Capabilities include:

  • Expertise in financial planning, analysis and evaluation
    • Expertise with common methods and tools for interrogating business data
    • Able to tell a compelling business story through financial analysis
    • Expertise in financial business case structuring
  • Expertise in application of frameworks and analysis to evaluate business problems
    • Logical structuring
    • Hypothesis based analysis
  • Aptitude/Interest in high-growth emerging technology areas: e.g., Digital technologies, Cloud, Internet of Things, Cognitive Science/Artificial Intelligence
  • Broad knowledge of Consulting industries and service areas
  • Experience in leading client engagements and managing teams of Consulting professionals
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, relationship building skills
  • Strong executive presence
  • Ability to manage several projects of varying complexity at one time
  • Ability to manage project resources, peer level resources and senior/executives to complete scope of work
  • High agility; Ability to adapt quickly to changing business environment
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, results oriented and able to work independently, and cooperatively within a team
  • Successful candidates will have 8+ years of total experience including Corporate Development or Banking experience
