Position Summary

Individuals in this role will be responsible for a variety of activities such as:

  • Writing fresh, concise, data-driven, tech-focused content for an executive audience, and editing the writing of others to support Deloitte’s Technology Leadership and Emerging Tech thought leadership efforts.
  • Working closely with CIO Program and CIO Journal teams and marketing/PR colleagues to generate a variety of deadline-driven pieces, including original research reports (1,500-3,000 words), short articles (400-1,200 words), and report adaptations (distilling in-depth reports to >1,200 word articles).
  • Regularly pitching new content ideas based on existing Deloitte research and/or trends within the tech industry.
  • Managing multiple works streams simultaneously and independently.
  • Interviewing C-suite leaders and Deloitte subject matter experts and translating their insights and perspectives into compelling, professionally written materials (e.g., reports, POVs, articles, blogs, Q&As, PPT presentations, educational materials).
  • Developing ongoing relationships with Deloitte subject matter experts and practice teams.
  • Continually monitoring and identifying developments affecting CIOs and other information technology executives.
  • Incorporating internal and external data sources to bolster the thought leadership.

The Team 

The CIO Program empowers CIOs and tech executives to achieve their bold vision through customized experiences and insights—enabling opportunities to transform and advance, immerse and break through, and connect and discover. The program plays an integral role in the Deloitte’s mission of supporting account leaders and teams in helping key client leaders, their teams, and organizations address their most pressing challenges. Our goal is to make Deloitte and our account leaders the trusted advisor to our client CIOs. The CIO Research team explores a broad set of technology and leadership issues affecting CIOs, tech executives, and our clients’ businesses to produce research & thought leadership.

As a CIO Research technology writer, you will work with key leaders in the firm to shape, write, and publish Deloitte’s marquee piece on technology leadership, the Global Technology Leadership Study, and other related tech leadership-related eminence efforts. This professional will work closely with firm and CIO Program leadership, as well as account leadership from various Deloitte practice areas. This person will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of various thought leadership publications and work with the CIO Program Research Director to plan and manage the research agenda. This role requires strong storytelling, analytical and communication skills as well as technology leadership domain expertise. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience writing about technology and business topics for an executive audience, ideally as a technology journalist for a publishing company or technology trade organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related area. 
  • Proven ability to write engaging leaders, structure articles in ways that support a clear, linear narrative, and translate and structure complex ideas into compelling stories
  • Strong interest in research and experience with analyzing data to pull out key insights and potential storylines
  • In addition to exceptional editorial skills, the individual must be skilled in interviewing C-suite executives on complex business topics, comfortable working in an environment with daily deadlines, and flexible to changes in editorial assignments and direction.
  • Broad, current understanding of emerging technology trends (e.g., digitization, AI, AR/VR, advanced networking, cyber-security) and enthusiasm for the tech industry as a whole.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to confidently and professionally build consensus among various stakeholders.
  • Experience with cross-platform digital publishing and with multiple content types (social media, blogs, long-form digital and print articles, webcasts, embedded video, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
  • Well-developed time, resource, leadership and project management skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, responsiveness, attention to detail, resourcefulness, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • A commitment to excellence and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a structured environment.
  • Knowledge of AP Style and WordPress blogging platform a plus
  • Work samples that showcase your tech expertise, top-notch writing and ability to speak to an executive audience 
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $81655 to $177470.
